Watch the emotional moment a mom holds her baby after almost losing her life
Lindsey Schulz had to fight for her life to hold her baby girl.
“When I held her, I kind of didn't really understand why I was even in the hospital at this point," says Lindsey. "I didn't even know how long we had been there.”
Lindsey was 37 weeks pregnant when her husband Kevin became concerned about her health and took her to the ER. There, she was diagnosed with Acute Fatty Liver of Pregnancy and HELLP syndrome, both life-threatening pregnancy complications.
Doctors performed an emergency C-section and Lindsey was able to hold her baby. But the battle wasn’t over, as the new mom would subsequently suffer internal bleeding and organ failure and end up on a ventilator.
Lindsey never gave up. After a traumatic five days in the ICU, she pulled through. However, she had no memory of holding her baby. So, when she finally wrapped her arms around her little girl again, it was like holding her for the first time.
“Just holding her, all that was really going through my head is I just wanted to stare at her face,” explained Lindsey. “I just remember all the fears and confusion and everything just kind of went silent. I just wanted to look at her and just take it in as much as I could.”

When she'd fully recovered, Lindsey wanted to share her story and connect with others who'd gone through similar experiences. When she posted a video on TikTok, she got more than 33 million views. Women all over resonated with her story.
“Anyone who has experienced birth trauma knows how lonely it is. After sharing my last videos a lot of people commented that they had been through something similar. I am so sorry you had to through this but thank you so much for sharing and allowing me to feel less alone,” Lindsey posted.
