Your dog is your child — it's not a question. You love them, you care for them, and you even cuddle with them when they're feeling sick. So we just know it was hard for one woman to admit to her Pittie Akira that she's *gulp* adopted. And the dog had the most unexpected reaction when the woman finally fessed up.

At least the woman tried to do it the right way. She sat her Pit Bull down and delivered the hard news.

The dog was off having fun with her stuffy when her mama asked her to come over. As the clip shows, the Pittie was such a good girl when her mom asked her to sit. She had a big smile on her face, but then mom had to go and drop the hammer — "You're adopted," she told the Pit Bull.

Um, well....that was unexpected. Poor Akira's face completely fell after her mom shared the news.

"I'm sorry," her mom said. But Akira's little bark makes us think she's going to need some time to process.

Akira's stunned reaction had people rolling online. "The shock and betrayal!" exclaimed one commenter. "She understood every word and was not impressed," someone else teased. "She said, 'whaaaatttttt!!! what do you mean!!!'" another commenter joked. "She’s like 'what? You’re not my birth mom?'" someone else added.

Preparing to Adopt a Dog

Most people would agree that dog ownership is one of the best things you can do — ever. There's truly nothing like coming home to a happy face. Some people prefer to go through reputable breeders for their pets, while others choose to go the adoption route.

There are lots of reasons to adopt — namely that you'll be able to help one of the many vulnerable animals in need of a good home. Animals at shelters and rescues tend to be less expensive than animals purchased through breeders. But there are certain things you'll have to prepare before starting the adoption process.

While most animals at rescues or shelters don't cost anything to adopt, be prepared to pay for adoption fees, basic necessities like food, training fees, grooming, and pet supplies. It can be a lot!

New dogs will need lots of time to adjust too, especially if you adopt a puppy. Make sure you can devote some time and energy into getting your dog properly acclimated to their new surroundings. More importantly, be prepared to commit. Dogs typically live anywhere from 12 to 15 years so if you want to adopt make sure you're in it for the long haul.
