John Bolton mocks Biden’s case to Democrats: ‘Suit up, lemmings!’
Former national security adviser John Bolton mocked President Biden’s message to Democrats, telling them to “suit up” because he was driving them all off a cliff.
Bolton joined CNN’s Jim Acosta on Friday to discuss Biden’s Thursday press conference. The president has insisted that he is not dropping out of the race despite growing calls from congressional Democrats and donors to do so for fear he will lead the party to defeat.
“The message that President Biden basically gave to the Democratic Party yesterday evening was ‘Suit up, lemmings. I’m going off the edge of the cliff and you’re coming with me now,’” Bolton said in comments highlighted by Mediaite.
Bolton said if Democrats want to have Biden as their nominee, “they will elect Trump” and help Republicans in House and Senate races.
Bolton, who served in the Trump administration, said he thinks another performance like the debate will happen for Biden in September or October.
“Everybody knows that and at that point, the Democrats will not have any option,” he said. “They will be stuck.”
“They will be tied to the mast of Biden’s ship as it goes down,” Bolton continued.
Bolton, an outspoken critic of former President Trump, reiterated a previous point, saying that if Democrats leave Biden as their nominee and Trump wins the election in November, the former president has “an obligation” in his victory speech to thank Biden and the Democrats for his win.
