Cat's Trip to Pick Out New Friend After Losing Beloved Betta Fish Has Everyone in Tears
A cat's attachment to his owner's pet fish might seem unlikely, but when you realize how much the kitty loved the little guy it makes total sense. The betta fish and orange cat were close. So much so that his mom went on a whole journey trying to get the cat a new bestie after the fish passed.
It really broke Cashie up when Violet died.
As their owner explained in the clip, orange cat Cashie and Violet the betta fish have been together since Cashie was adopted. But when Violet recently passed away unexpectedly, it "impacted [Cashie] even more than I ever thought," the woman admitted.

"He loved her so much and cried out for her days following her passing," she added. So the animal lover decided to bring Cashie to the pet store so they could pick out a new fish together. It was a big day! Sadly they didn't leave the pet store with a new betta — we guess they'll just have to try again.
People in the comments section were so emotional over Cashie's loss. "Algorithm better algorithm and bring me back for the baby finding his bloopy friend," wrote one person. "I’m crying now and want to buy every fish for your cat," someone else added. "I love this. You are absolutely a wonderful cat parent," praised another commenter. "Sweet mama you are!!! Keep us updated on finding a new friend for him," asked another person.
Cats and Fish
Cats are sort of known for loving fish — eating fish that is. While Cashie and Violet seem to have a uniquely platonic relationship, there are many cats who see fish in the home as prey. It's almost hard for them to resist. Because fish swim back and forth it's sort of hypnotic to cats. It triggers their predatory instincts.
That doesn't mean your cat is going to attack, however. They're just using those inherent cat instincts. It's basically like they're playing catch, but they'll never get to your fish because there's glass between the two.
Speaking of glass, you'll want to keep your fish protected from your cat. Place your fish's bowl somewhere out of the way and far from your cat's favorite places to perch.
It's totally doable to keep a cat and a pet fish under the same roof. And who knows? They might bond just like Violet and Cashie did.
