Britain's ugliest dog joins film stars on red carpet
Britain's ugliest dog has joined Hollywood stars on the red carpet ahead of the release of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Peggy the pugese – a pug and Chinese crested cross – is making her film debut as "Dogpool", alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
She was photographed with the actors during a promotional event at the Eventim Apollo in London on Thursday, sporting her superhero costume.
To celebrate the film, HMV has replaced its traditional dog-and-gramophone logo with one featuring Peggy on the sign of its flagship store in Oxford Street.
Peggy is the much-loved pet of Holly Middleton, from Leven in East Yorkshire, who entered her in UK's ugliest dog contest after adopting her when she was just six months old.
Shortly after winning the competition last year, Ms Middleton described Peggy as "beautiful both inside and out".
Reynolds spotted the dog and decided to cast her in his latest film because she felt "like the animal manifestation" of Deadpool's alter ego Wade Wilson.
He told Empire Magazine in May that Peggy's role had started as a "tiny little afterthought", before growing into a "staple" of the movie.
HMV said the Oxford Street store had received a temporary "makeover" ahead of the film's UK release on 26 July.
A spokesperson said: “HMV's famous canine icon was given a new super hero look as part of in-store events taking place on Friday 12 July."
