Should Biden continue in 2024 election? Former Obama advisor says there will be talks

WASHINGTON − David Axelrod, former senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, told CNN after the first presidential debate there will be discussions about whether President Joe Biden should continue running in the 2024 election.

His comments come after Biden froze up on stage, stuttered and went on rambles during his debate against former President Donald Trump.

Axelrod argued that while Biden did score points when discussing issues such as abortion and the economy, he did not meet his mission of appearing energetic and engaged to the audience.

“I think there was a sense of shock actually, how he came out at the beginning of this debate. How his voice sounded that day, you know, he seemed a little disoriented. He did get stronger as the debate went on. By that time, I think the panic had set in and I think … there are gonna be discussions about whether he should continue,” Axelrod said.

However, Axelrod said Trump did not meet his mission either.

“He did not resist the attention - the temptation to be nasty, to prevaricate about a whole bunch of things about his own record, about Biden’s record, and to seem petty and small at times. So what you saw was a candidate who’s deeply vulnerable, and a president who may not be able to take advantage of,” he said.
